Meta Paintings
Meta Paintings
Closely rendered from direct observation, my long term series of still lifes depict piles of abandoned oil paint scraped from my palette. These small scale meta-paintings transcribe an ephemeral unseen process. Using watercolor, much like an 18th century naturalist documenting a bit of mold, I record these jumbled up and discarded remnants at a micro, essential level. This granular examination of paint out of context explores how close examination can both hide a complete view and reveal hidden aspects.
